History: Canon history detailed here. The primary difference of this AU version is that Sasori herself is a cisgendered female, which has more of an effect on her personality and perceptions than on the general course of events in canon.
Appearance: Petite and with a slender build, Sasori has large dollish grey-brown eyes with long, full eyelashes; half-lidded eyes combined with short and messy red hair give the initial impression of someone who's just rolled out of bed.
In puppet form, Sasori's body is constructed similarly to her male canon counterpart, with visible joints and seams, albeit somewhat sleeker and more naturalistic when it comes to overall shaping of the joints and torso construction. To accommodate feminine anatomy, Sasori's heart container is placed in the upper center of her chest rather than to one side. She roughly resembles a young woman in her mid-to-late teens, her face in particular brings to mind that of a delicate porcelain doll due to fine features and large eyes.
When in a human and true-to-age form, Sasori still has a bit of a baby face, but otherwise has a clearly adult appearance. She's slightly taller, but still essentially retains the same slenderness and modest bustline, albeit with fuller, mature hips. Her physique isn't quite so delicate as its puppet counterpart, however; due to diligent training she has a definite degree of lean muscle tone, and decades in the field as a ninja have left their mark on her skin in the form of a number of pale, faded scars.
Personality: As in canon, Sasori is aloof, secretive, and artistic; she's also an intellectual and a strategist, cautious and controlled both in battle and outside of it. A creature of habit, she's impatient when it comes to dealing with people she feels are wasting her time and has a low tolerance for idiots, with a bit of an artistic flair for the dramatic when it suits her. She is capable of being cordial and showing respect to those she feels deserves it, such as those who possess intellectual, martial, or artistic talents, but she isn't shy about dismissing those she considers unworthy of her time and can be outright condescending. The biggest difference from her male canon counterpart is that growing up as a woman in a village as harsh and militaristic as Suna made her even more resentful of and self-conscious about the emotional, sensitive side of her nature. Even as the granddaughter of the highly respected Chiyo, Sasori felt at times that she was forced to work harder to prove herself; there also was a definite expectation placed upon her in a village decimated by war to at some stage prioritize continuing the family line and raising children. The latter was unthinkable to her; she had no desire whatsoever to turn away from the artistic ambitions that consumed her or her profession as a shinobi, to in effect sacrifice everything that she'd come to define herself as on the altar of village duty and civilian domesticity. More fundamentally, it would require her to open herself emotionally to others, to subject herself to a level of vulnerability that frankly terrified her when the pain of losing her parents had never fully faded. Ultimately it was her village affiliation and even her own humanity that she chose to set aside instead, devoting herself fully to her art, body and mind.
Sasori became completely secretive about the appearance of her true self after she left Suna, even going so far as to outright hide the fact that she was female by remaining within Hiruko as much as possible. Only Pain and her partners were privy to the knowledge of her true nature.
If she tends to have a dim view about men in general due to her experiences, her view on other women isn't much better. She has an acute case of internalized misogyny and outright looks down on civilian women as weak, pathetic, and overly emotional. In some ways her struggle with gender expectations made her even more disciplined, harsh, and unbending than her male counterpart; she can cross over at times into the realms of overcompensation and projection. She has much more of a reluctance about and embarrassment over her 'softer' emotional impulses in particular; she's somewhat ashamed of what taste for feminine and delicate things she does possess, and as a result is highly secretive about any girlish impulses that she does indulge in.
